Documents required:

* Passport or travel document with a validity not less than 6 months

* Visa application form (filled out)

* One (1) recent 4x6cm photography of the applicant

* Round-trip air ticket or e-ticket (paid in full)

* Proof of financial means (20,000 baht per person/40,000 baht per family)

Visa fees: US $ 30.00 per entry or equivalent. The tourist visa fee is subject to change without the prior notice, so it is a good idea to be updated by visiting the nearest Thai Embassy or consulate in your area.

The validity of a tourist visa ranges from 90 days to 180 days. It depends on the number of entries you make across the land border, or from the airport. If you arrived in Thailand through the international airport, you would be stamped a 30 or 60-day permission of stay – depending on your country (if it made a bilateral agreement on visa exemption with Thailand or not).

How to get there

Thailand offers quite a few airports servicing the international flights: 2 in Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airports), Phuket International Airport, Chiangmai International Airport, Hat Yai International Airport, Samui International Airport, and Krabi International Airport.

There are also several land borders waiting for tourists traveling by local transportation (minivans/buses, etc.). Thailand has over twenty international overland border crossings. These allow overland travel from Malaysia (seven passes, the most popular ones are the Padang Besar and Sadao crossings), Burma (four crossings, the most popular ones are Ranong/Kawthaung), Laos (six crossings, the most popular ones are Nong Khai/Vientiane and Chiang Khong/Huay Xai, though Nakhon Phanom/Tha Khaek and Mukdahan/Savannakhet are also widely used) and Cambodia (six crossings, Aranyprathet/Poipet is the most popular, followed by Had Lek/Koh Kong).

A long coastline along the Gulf of Thailand (1,875 km) and the Andaman Sea (740 km) (not including the shores of some 400 islands, most of them in the Andaman Sea) makes Thailand accessible also for sailors and sailing boats.

Packing essentials

Thailand is a hot country in general, although it is a good idea to pack some hoodie or light jacket protecting you from the wind (especially if you plan to enjoy many water activities like diving/snorkeling etc.).

Comfy flip flops or sandals should work well either for hanging out the beach or for sightseeing and short treks.

Hat or cap or bandana will protect you from the sunstroke, so do not forget to take one with you!

Necessary drugs/medicines (such as painkillers, electrolytes, diarrhea illness, disinfectants and patches for wounds) are available in every single store (7/11, Family Mart, and so on). Also, the mosquito repellents are easy to buy, so bringing them from Europe in our opinion is pointless although it is a good idea to bring the sunscreen (the one which is not affecting the coral reef though!), as the ones available in local drug stores are quite pricy and most of them contain whitening components.
